Davis Miles welcomes our 2022 Diversity Legal Writing Program intern and scholarship winner Elizabeth Nañez!

Liz is a May 2022 J.D. Candidate at Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU. She is the recipient of the Richard A. Castillo Scholarship and was a Teaching Assistant for Legal Research and Writing.

Liz comes to the firm with significant legal experience. Prior to law school, she was a certified litigation paralegal and a legal assistant. She has also served for a year as a legal clerk for a local law firm and was a Judicial Extern to Hon. Diane. J. Humetewa, where she researched and drafted opinions in various areas of federal law, including employment discrimination, insurance coverage disputes, arbitration, and procedural matters.

The Diversity Legal Writing Program is a collaborative scholarship program between the Maricopa County Bar Association, the State Bar of Arizona, and Phoenix law firms that provides diverse second-year law students with a 12-week private law firm internship during their spring semesters. The Program will run for 12 weeks beginning on January 19, 2022 and ending on April 16, 2022. The program’s aim is to increase opportunities for diverse applicants to experience the practice of law in a private firm setting, to strengthen legal research and writing skills, to develop relationships with attorneys in the Phoenix legal community, and ideally to improve representation of diverse applicants in mid-to-large law firms.

Lis will work with many of our talented attorneys, including Michael Medina and Krizia Verplancke, who spearhead this initiative.
