On January 30, 2014, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (“OCC”) released his 19th annual survey of credit underwriting. The survey included 86 of the largest national banks and federal savings associations and covered the 18 month period ending June 30, 2013. The survey, according to the OCC press release, “shows that underwriting standards are continuing to ease,” for both commercial and retail products. Examiners noticed easing underwriting standards and increasing loan volume concurrent with increasing risk appetite and greater market liquidity.
