Pre-Paid Answers the Call for Help from its Members

Maybe the sky wasn’t falling for Chicken Little, but for a lot of people in America today, it feels like it is. The real estate and mortgage crises continue to affect hundreds of thousands of people across this great land. In a recent conversation with some of our attorneys at Davis Miles, they proposed ways we could help our Pre-Paid Legal members. They cited numerous cases where the members were being scammed by individuals and companies offering to help them, and then charging exorbitant prices for often questionable help.
So, to assist our Pre-Paid members, Davis Miles has set up a special section just to handle mortgage work-outs and foreclosures for Pre-Paid Legal members.
“There is a lot that can be done for people, if we can talk to them soon enough,” says David Brown, one of the attorneys at Davis Miles who specializes in working with mortgage companies and banks on behalf of our clients. “I’ve done this for over 12 years now,” David said, in a recent conversation I had with him. “It’s very frustrating when people come to us after paying money to some scam operation that tells them they will help them and then never does anything. Or they charge people, already suffering financially, exorbitant fees. By the time they think to call us, it’s sometimes too late. They’ve lost their home and their money.”
The tragedy of the collapse of Wall Street investment firms has made lawmakers understand the urgency of resolving the housing foreclosure crisis and the time is ripe for members and their families to correct bad loans. We speak the language of the lenders because of the years of representing them (and borrowers) in foreclosures. This gives us the opportunity to use this experience and knowledge of default servicing to assist our members.
