PERSONAL

There is a chance that you or a loved one may contract COVID-19.  Please rely upon the guidance the State of Arizona and the Federal government has issued in regards to seeking medical attention.  When seeking medical attention, you will likely be asked if you have a healthcare power of attorney and living will.  These two documents are part of an estate plan that also includes a durable power of attorney, last will and testament and a living trust.

Important documents everyone needs

Now is an appropriate time to review your estate plan.  A healthcare power of attorney states who has legal authority to make medical decisions on your behalf.  It should also include a mental healthcare power of attorney.  A living will is a directive to hospitals and health professionals regarding your end-of-life care and comfort.  A durable power of attorney allows a person to transact business on your behalf, such as managing your finances if you are unable to do so.  A last will and testament and trust dictates who should inherit your property and how.  In addition to these documents, we encourage you to review your memorial plan.

Hopefully the COVID-19 outbreak will not necessitate the use of any of these documents.  However, whether or not they are needed now or later, they will be needed eventually.  Now is a good time to make sure they are current or in place.
