LegalShield offers a variety of Legal Plans. The Legal Plan you purchased is described in your LegalShield contract. If you are unsure which Legal Plan you have, you may contact LegalShield’s Customer Service Department at (800) 654-7757, or the Associate who sold you the Plan. The customer service representatives at your LegalShield Provider Firm, Davis Miles, PLLC, (800) 435-3290 or (505) 246-0231 will also be able to provide you with some information about your Legal Plan.

Life Events Plan/Family Plan
The LegalShield Life Events/Family Plan provides a number of legal benefits to assist you with your personal legal issues, including family law, bankruptcy, adoptions, collections, foreclosures, probate and estate planning, criminal law and civil litigation. Under your Family Plan, you can also receive two consultations per year on business legal issues. (If you have a home-based business, a small or large business, LegalShield has specific Business Plans geared to your business needs.)
Covered legal services under the Family Plan are divided into specific areas or “Titles” under your LegalShield Plan. You should consult your own Legal Plan for your specific benefits and any limitations or exclusions. The follow is a summary of those Titles and benefits:
Preventive Legal Services – Title 1
- Telephone consultations with an attorney concerning any legal matter
- Up to one hour of legal research per legal issue pre membership year
- One letter or phone call per legal issue per membership year
- One contract review of ten (10) pages or less per legal issue
- Preparation of a Last Will and Testament, Living Will, Medical and General Durable Powers of Attorney
Motor Vehicle Legal Services – Title 2
- Defense of certain traffic violations
- Defense on any criminal charge for Manslaughter, Involuntary Manslaughter, Negligent Homicide or Vehicular Homicide arising from the permitted use of a licensed motor vehicle
- Up to 2.5 hours of assistance for Suspended License or minor personal injury/property damage ($2000.00 or less)
- Pre-existing conditions (more than 14 days prior to membership effective date) are not covered
Civil Trial Defense Services – Title 3
- From 60 to 295.5 hours of attorney services for actual trial time, depending on how long your LegalShield membership has been active
- From 2.5 to 4.5 hours of attorney services for pre-trial time, depending on how long your LegalShield membership has been active
- Certain civil and work-related criminal matters may qualify for coverage
- Pre-existing conditions (prior to membership effective date) are not covered
IRS Audit Legal Services – Title 4
- Up to 50 hours of legal time if you receive written notice of an IRS audit of your personal tax return
- Benefits limited based on applicable tax year
Preferred Member Rate for Traditional Legal Representation – Title 5
- Discounted Legal Rates for representation

Family Plan + Option
The benefits of the Family Plan + Option are the same as the Family Plan, with the addition of more pre-trial hours under Title 3, the Civil Trial Defense benefit. With the Option, during the first year of membership, you receive an additional fifteen (15) hours which can be used for any and all legal services rendered from a qualified attorney prior to your actual trial. In subsequent membership years, your pre-trial hours increase as follows:

Emergency Line
With Emergency Line coverage, you have access to legal assistance 24 hours a day via a toll free number if you are:
- Stopped, detained or arrested for a traffic or criminal matter
- Seriously injured in an accident
- Served with a warrant
- Confronted by the authorities and your children are removed from your custody

Home Based Business Addendum
In addition to benefits available in the Family Plan, the covered Home Based Business entity may receive the following legal services:

Comprehensive Plan
The LegalShield Comprehensive Plan is the “Cadillac” of Family Plans. In addition to the legal benefits and services of the Family Plan, the Comprehensive Plan provides the following extra benefits: (Note that the numbering of each benefit under this Legal Plan does not directly correspond to the numbering of the benefits in the Family Plan. If numbers appear to be skipped below, it is because some benefits in the Comprehensive Legal Plan are covered under differently numbered benefits in the Family Plan).
Mortgage Document Assistance – Benefit Four
- Preparation of all loan documents required by the lending institution for the Member’s primary residence. One preparation per year.
- Review of all loan documents prepared by a third party
Uncontested Legal Separation – Benefit Five
- Representation by the Provider Law Firm for an uncontested Legal Separation or uncontested civil Annulment in the state of the Member’s primary residence
Uncontested Divorce – Benefit Six
- Representation by the Provider Law Firm for an uncontested Divorce
- Assets of the marriage must be under $100,000
- No division of retirement benefits is applicable
Uncontested Adoption – Benefit Seven
- Preparation of Adoption Documents
- Representation by the Provider Law Firm for an uncontested Adoption
Uncontested Name Change – Benefit Eight
- Preparation of Uncontested Name Change Documents
- Representation by the Provider Law Firm for Uncontested Name Change at the initial hearing
In-Office Consultation – Benefit Fifteen
- One hour personal in-office consultation per membership year at the office of the Provider Law Firm
