What should I expect in my inital call to Davis Miles?

Your initial call to Davis Miles, PLLC, your LegalShield Provider Law Firm, is your first opportunity to provide us with important information about the parties involved in your legal matter. Our phone numbers are (800) 435-5081 and (602) 285-4664. Before you make your initial call, you should gather all of the relevant information and facts that you can about your legal matter. This includes the names and addresses of any and all other people and organizations who may be involved. If you do not have this information, the processing of your legal matter may be delayed. DAVIS MILES CANNOT GIVE YOU LEGAL ADVICE OR LISTEN TO ALL OF THE DETAILS OF YOUR LEGAL MATTER DURING THE INITIAL CALL.

Your initial call to Davis Miles will be answered by a Customer Service Representative (“CSR”) who has been trained to assist you. The CSR will ask you for your LegalShield membership number, verify that your account is active, confirm or update your address, phone number, and email address, and request a brief description of your legal matter. The CSR will then give you the file or “intake” number assigned to this particular matter. Please make a note of this number as we will use this number to identify this legal matter from others you may have. Your call will be ended at this point so that we can check the LegalShield and the Davis Miles existing client databases for the names you gave us. Once the conflict checks have been completed, you will receive a call back from a Provider Attorney knowledgeable in the area of law relating to your matter.

Your initial call should last no more than 5 minutes, and should sound something like this:

Landlord/Tenant Dispute:

“My name is ________ and my LegalShield Membership Number is _________________. I am renting a house located at ___[address], ____[city], ___ [state]. I have (or do not have) a written lease and ______________[name] is the landlord (sometimes the Landlord is called the Lessor). The Landlord’s address is ___[address], ____[city], ___ [state]. I paid first and last month’s rent, plus a deposit, and now that I have given notice that I am leaving, the Landlord is saying that I do not get my deposit back. I want to know if that is true, and how I get my money back.”

Traffic Citation/Motor Vehicle:

“My name is ________ and my LegalShield Membership Number is _________________. On ______ [date] I received a citation from the City of ____[city] for speeding and I have a court date for my initial appearance on ______[date], ___[year]. I want an attorney to go with me and represent me in this matter.”

IRS Audit:

“My name is ________ and my LegalShield Membership Number is _________________. On ______ [date] I received a notice from the IRS that I am being audited for my ___[year] personal income tax return. They have recomputed my taxes and say that I owe more money. I want to know what I can do to fight the IRS claim.”

Real Property Dispute:

“My name is ________ and my LegalShield Membership Number is _________________. I own my home located at ___[address], ____[city], ___ [state]. My neighbor says that my fence is on their property. My neighbor’s name is ____[name], and their address is ___[address], ____[city], ___ [state]. I need to talk with an attorney about how to resolve this dispute.”

Divorce/Legal Separation:

“My name is ________ and my LegalShield Membership Number is _________________. I need to talk to an attorney about getting a divorce. My spouse’s name is ______ [name]. We own (or do not own) real property and we do (or do not) have children.”

Your initial call will be ended so that the CSR can check for conflicts of interest and process your intake information. You will then receive a call back from a Provider Attorney within the next eight (8) business hours, so it is recommended that you give the CSR a cell phone number or another number where you can be easily reached at any time during those hours.

You should also have all relevant dates available, and any documents, letters, bills, contracts or tickets which may be important to the resolution of your matter. Many people find it helpful to write out a short factual summary of their issue so that they have all of the important facts of the case handy when they speak with the LegalShield Customer Service Representative.
