How are disagreements in a contested divorce resolved?

There are several different opportunities for the parties to resolve their differences through mediation, conciliation, parenting conferences, settlement conferences. The judge will review any agreements and make sure they are fair before approving them. If the parties cannot agree, they will ask for a trial where they will present their evidence and their point of view about what should happen (their arguments) to a judge. The judge will make the final decision.
